MIPS Malta Platform Running Linux v2.6 kernel

This page includes information for the OVP MIPS Malta platform Mips32MaltaLinux configured for Linux and how to get a Linux 2.6 Kernel booting on it.

Booting Linux on the OVP MIPS Malta Linux Platform

Please go to the page Mips32MaltaLinuxBootingInstructions for information about booting Linux on the OVP platform. This is also available to download in the document OVP_MIPS_Linux_Platform_User_Guide.pdf.

Getting Linux running on this OVP MIPS platform is very easy with this OVP example, which works out of the box. The User Guide document also contains information on how to develop Linux applications for a MIPS processor and debug them - all within Linux - while running on a Windows XP PC or on a native Linux machine.

Obtaining Source and Modifying the OVP MIPS Malta Linux Platform

Please go to the page Mips32MaltaLinuxModifyingPlatformInstructions where you will find instructions for obtaining the complete source code of the Mips32MaltaLinux Platform and re-building it.

MIPS32 Linux GDB for debugging Linux user Applications

This download is made available to allow the debug of a Linux user application.
the application was built using the Code Sourcery MIPS Linux tools that can be found at http://www.codesourcery.com/gnu_toolchains/mips.
The source used to build this binary is available from http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/download/ by accessing the old versions, specifically ftp://sourceware.org/pub/gdb/old-releases/gdb-6.4a.tar.gz. This is built directly for use on Linux but is patched for building under MINGW (Windows support). The patched files are available. The use of gdb with the gdbserver for debugging Linux user Applications is described in the document OVP_MIPS_Linux_Platform_User_Guide.pdf.
